Winter Is For Woodenware

With the bees all snuggled in their beds hives I get some time to read but in these dark days when there is not much time to do things outside, I tend to spend more time in the shop getting ready for the next year.

I’m building hive boxes and covers and comb frames and hive bottoms and other woodenware. I made this nice little frame jig (fixture) that helps me build those comb frames with a bit more ease. And fewer mistakes. And so much faster! It holds the parts of the frame as I’m building it while keeping the pieces square. It’s like I got myself a couple extra pairs of hands.

Last Friday we got a rare snow. About three inches. I like snow here. It looks gorgeous and then goes away before it gets tiresome and dirty. It was a good way to enter the Winter Solstice with each day now getting just a little bit longer. Spring is coming!
